Childhood

Childhood, Landscape
Childhood
This is a landscape painting of the houses right outside my bedroom window. The house on the right is a ranch-style house built in 1955, while the other house was built in 1922. These houses have come to symbolize my childhood. I feel as though I am saying goodbye to a younger part of me and accepting the fact that I will soon be moving away from home and becoming more independent. I see my childhood not only because this was a scene I looked at every day, but because it reminds me of my childhood friends. Growing up we did everything together and only now that I am older can I see our differences. We have grown apart due to the people we have become and the things we want out of life. Yes, these houses are compositionally different and have clashing colors, but they always remain next to each other. I may be going in a separate direction from my friends, but if they ever need me, I will be right next to them.
