I got my inspiration for the Ofelia painting from French painter Odilon Redons Ofelia paintings. I had a model in my studio for the profile in the background. I wanted to paint a layer of flowers on top of the profile. I mainly painted different kinds of tulips indoors and outdoors. I tried to express the "lifetime" of the tulip from the beginning until it dried and how it changed its shape and colors. My idea was to express symbolically the pain of growing and loosing things in life through the "life" of flowers. I start often the painting process by photographing the model and playing around with the photos in the phoshop until I find the composition that is best for my "story" that I want to tell through combining every day objects in imaginary way.
I use few oil colors in the begining to mark the objects in the painting.
I think that best art is born from a balanced union of craftsmanship and creativity.
