What initially intrigued me about this scene was how bright the sunlight reflected off the boat house, while the choppy waves, surrounding boathouse and pilings, signaled warning of an impending storm.
While a large painting of just house, dock and water may have worked, I kept all the scenes other elements to provide added interest. The large sky behind the mountains helped play a key role in providing depth to the scene. So depending on who I spoke with, their eyes traveled along with foreground foliage to the building structures on the right, then left along the dock leading up to the boathouse…or vice-versa.
I added the birds to give a little motion as well.
